Battle of the Books

What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is a nationwide reading incentive program where students, who love to read, can compete. This optional program is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Interested students form teams of 3-5 players. Team members collectively read all twelve titles handed down by the Battle of the Books committee. Then, in game-show format, teams "battle" against each other, identifying the title of the book and the author of the clues given by the host. In tournament style, winning teams advance until we have an All-School winner. The Washington Middle School winner earns the right to battle against the winning teams from Griffin, Jefferson, Marshall, and Reeves middle schools. The winning school captures the traveling trophy to take back to their school for the next year.

Upon completion of a book, students take a quiz on the book and record their score as proof they read their book.  Quizzes are taken at school using a link from the Destiny webpage. When all 12 titles have been passed, the team is qualified to compete.  Friday, March 16 is the last day to qualify to be in the tournament.  A seeding round will take place on Tuesday, March 20, and the tournament will begin Wednesday, March 21.
