At WMS, 6th gradeLanguage Arts will include a reading program and a language program. The reading program is divided into two areas, independent reading and a skills based literature program using the Prentice Hall Literature series. We will be reading a variety of stories and novels as a class in order to build comprehension. Language arts skills include spelling, grammar, vocabulary development and various types of writing using Step Up to Writing and Six Traits curriculum. Although there will be spelling tests, evaluation will be based upon the correct use of words in writing final drafts of papers as well. Creative writing, poetry and journal writing are part of an ongoing process in class.
