Legos Simple Machines
This elective is designed for students interested in how things work! The course is open to both students who have little background, as well as students who fancy themselves beginning engineers; curiosity and creativity are the only prerequisites!
The pre-engineering elective introduces simple and powered machines, structures, motors and pneumatics enabling students to work as scientists and engineers. Working collaboratively in pairs or teams, students design and build models to solve real-world problems.
After mastering simple machines and structures, students apply these skills to problem solving more complex design challenges: catapults, bridges and drag-racing cars, to name a few. In addition, students have the opportunity to use these skills and progress to additional electives, such as STEM Robotics and Technical Arts classes.
