Robotics & Advance Robotics

The 7th and 8th grade robotics elective is designed for students interested in how to bring machines to life!  This course provides a fantastic cross-curricular opportunity integrating science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Working collaboratively in teams with the NXT Mindstorm, students explore the world of engineering by designing, building and programming progressively-complex robotic systems:  sound activated dragsters, sumo-bot wrestlers, and mine-sweeper, to name a few.  Working through these challenges, students apply their core communication, math and science skills in concert with their newfound programming and technology skills.

The Advanced course uses the newer EV3 model to introduce advanced computer science concepts and technologies, such as Bluetooth communication and advanced sensors.  In addition, students learn to use their robot to open up a world of scientific inquiry through the use of sophisticated Vernier probes and data collection options from extremely fast to extremely slow.

Students learn to rely on critical thinking, planning, lots of hard work, and each other.

Advanced students will have the opportunity to compete in the international FIRST Lego League competitions.  This is an exciting game competition where students work on a FLL team to design an innovative robot that can complete a series of missions in 2 1/2 minutes.
