In both Social Issues and SciTech, students acquire computer literacy skills including:

*Internet research
*electronic communication (e-mail)
*netiquette
*multi-media presentations
*web page development
*managing electronic information
*and most importantly, Internet safety and appropriate use.

These technology competencies are integrated into the Sixth Grade Science curriculum. Specifically, students learn these skills by completing projects in the content areas of Oceanography and Astronomy. Grade Level Expectations for Science are addressed throughout the curriculum. Click here for a description of these GLEs.

In addition, students are encouraged to improve their keyboarding accuracy and speed. The class is designed to operate in a cooperative learning environment. The four Ts: Thinking, teamwork, tolerance, technology are emphasized. In this setting, problem solving, leadership, and communication are reinforced. Grades are determined by class participation, daily work, and larger projects. By the end of the semester, students should be prepared to utilize technology independently to improve their learning in the 7th and 8th grades.

SciTech includes Astronomy and Oceanography

Each student takes this Technology Skills Survey at the beginning of the school year and then again at the end to measure success. See how you do!

Students who successfully complete SciTech are eligible to become WMS Tech TAs. Click here to download a Tech TA application.
