Students will continue to develop new skills and review skills already presented. Emphasis will be placed on editing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and paragraph development. We will use Mind Maps, Step Up to Writing, and the Four Square Process. As the year progresses, you should be able to see growth in written responses to factual information as well as creative writing pieces. Our focus will be to master multi paragraph essays. Lessons are aligned to the Grade Level Expectations as well as to the goals and objectives written at the spring IEP for your child.

If students use their time well in class they should not have a lot of nightly homework. You can look for a spelling test every other week. Also on Monday, assignments due Friday will be listed in the agenda. These assignments are intended to review topics previously taught. Best practice would be to work on the weekly homework a bit each night rather than save it all for Thursday. It would be great if an adult would make time to look over the work and help students do some editing. Believe it or not, they really do love you to be involved with what they are doing in school.

To stay up to date on nightly assignments, please look in the agenda. In my class, students fill the agenda in every day, and an adult will sign the agenda.

Thank you for your help and support.
