Kindness

Hello Families,
It has been a very short but busy first week of school! It has been wonderful to have students back in the building. Over these first few days, students have been getting to know their teachers and classmates, learning routines, and settling into the systems and expectations at WMS. I have enjoyed seeing so many smiling faces in classrooms and hallways.

As I shared last week, our enrollment this year is higher than projected. If our enrollment numbers remain steady through next week, we are hopeful that the district will approve additional staffing for WMS. If additional staffing is approved, we would be able to add some class sections and reduce the size of some of our larger classes. This may also mean some schedule changes for students.
We know that schedule changes can be difficult, particularly once students have begun settling into their classes. If changes are needed, we will make them thoughtfully and with the goal of creating the best possible learning environment for students. We will keep families updated as we learn more.

Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival and dismissal are busy times around WMS, and we appreciate everyone helping us keep students and our surrounding neighborhood safe and accessible.
A couple of reminders:
  • Please do not use 31st Court or other nearby neighborhood streets as student drop-off or pick-up locations. Cars waiting in these areas can create traffic and access concerns for our neighbors and emergency vehicles.
  • School begins at 9:10 a.m. Students who walk, bike, or are dropped off are welcome to arrive beginning at 8:50 a.m. This helps ensure that appropriate student supervision is available when they arrive.
Thank you for your help and partnership with these routines.

Thank you for helping us get the school year off to such a positive start. We appreciate your partnership as students settle into a new year.

I hope you and your family have an enjoyable Labor Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Hauschka
Principal
